AGC NYS's
Services
Owner Relations
All of AGC NYS's programs and policies are designed to
enhance the Membership's skill, integrity and responsibility and to
pursue equity on their behalf so as to improve their market
opportunities. The AGC NYS has ongoing relationships with public
construction agencies, private user groups and architects and engineers.
We have worked hard over the years to create a positive relationship
with business construction users and groups representing major private
sector clients. We are constantly referring Members to prospective
clients who are attracted to the AGC NYS and AGC of America logos for quality
contractors.
Government
Relations
Legislative and Executive Branch liaison to include
all contracting and regulatory agencies that provide a market or affect
the general contractor. An extensive legislative program is directed by
a staff of registered lobbyists. Agency liaisons include OGS, Dormitory
Authority, SUCF, UDC, Departments of Labor, Law, Tax, Environmental
Conservation, Health, Economic Development, Transportation and dozens of
others.
Industry Relations
Liaison, cooperation and leadership with regional,
local and state industry groups to include the NYS Construction Industry
Council, and organizations representing architects, engineers,
subcontractors, highway-heavy contractors, local builders exchanges
statewide and several other business-related organizations.
Employment Relations
As a representative of all types of contractors, the
AGC NYS provides service on all issues involving the employment of labor to
include employee benefits, labor disputes, labor law application,
prevailing wages, and the like. Membership in the AGC NYS in no way
obligates any contractor to any collective bargaining agreement
anywhere.
Legal Activity
The Association has been very active in the courts
over the years, defending the general contractor's cause. Dozens of
times, the Association has been a primary party or a friend of the court
on industry issues.
Field Services
Believing that the best way to represent contractors
is to constantly communicate with them to understand their needs and
problems, the entire AGC NYS staff regularly is in the field visiting
members and prospective members.
Committees
The AGC NYS and the AGC of America have a host of
committees made up of contractors and their associates, giving the
Association direction and input on the many general and technical issues
facing the contractor and the industry. Participation in those
committees is regularly sought and welcomed.
Meetings
A statewide Membership Meeting is held annually in the
summer months, usually at a New York State resort. Regional membership
meetings are held regularly.
Publications
The AGC NYS publishes its AGC Connection newsletter
twice monthly. The
AGC NYS also publishes a magazine, AGC Cornerstone.
AGC of
America also has a significant number of useful publications.
