AGC NYS Safety Excellence Awards

For a 2009 AGC NYS Safety Excellence Award application, click here.

We're pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 Safety Excellence Awards.  Click here for details.

The AGC NYS Safety Excellence Award is not a conventional competition with winners in each of the entry categories. Instead, awards are given to recognize and honor AGC NYS Members with excellent safety programs that meet the established minimum criteria, criteria that exceed industry standards. Consequently, AGC NYS Members are compared to their AGC peers around the country, thus comparing construction safety in New York State to other states. We request a company’s past history, which is reviewed and compared to their current history focusing on which direction the trend is heading. Finally, we incorporate a random, unscheduled inspection to view on-site implementation of company safety programs.

All Members who apply and meet the established criteria are honored with AGC NYS’s Hard Hat Plaque Award. They are also recognized for their efforts in the winter edition of the AGC Cornerstone magazine.

In 1999, AGC of America started its Construction Safety Excellence Award. In order to compete at the national level, you must be nominated by your home chapter. If you are interested in competing for the Construction Safety Excellence Award, you must apply for AGC NYS’s award.

Criteria for Eligibility:

  • A current Workers’ Comp experience rating (EMR) less than or equal to 1.00*
  • An Incidence Rate 25% or more below AGC’s average**
  • An accident prevention and training program*
  • An actively enforced disciplinary program for employees as well as subcontractors*

*Documentation required.
**Based on AGC’s National Summary Report Incidence Rate averages and hours worked group.
