GBC Safety Excellence Awards

We're pleased to announce the winners of the 2007 GBC Safety Excellence Awards.  Click here for details.

The GBC Safety Excellence Award is not a conventional competition with winners in each of the entry categories. Instead, awards are given to recognize and honor GBC Members with excellent safety programs that meet the established minimum criteria, criteria that exceed industry standards. Consequently, GBC Members are compared to their AGC peers, thus comparing construction safety in New York State to other states. We request a company’s past history, which is reviewed and compared to their current history focusing on which direction the trend is heading. Finally, we incorporate a random, unscheduled inspection to view on-site implementation of company safety programs.

All Members who apply and meet the established criteria are honored with GBC’s Hard Hat Plaque Award. They are also recognized for their efforts in the fall edition of the Build New York magazine.

The entry deadline for the 2008 program has passed.  Entry details and an application form for the 2009 program will be posted in the spring of 2009.

In 1999, AGC started their new Construction Safety Excellence Award. In order to compete at the national level, AGC members must be nominated by their home chapter. If you are interested in competing for the AGC award, you must apply for GBC’s award.

Criteria for Eligibility:

  • A current Workers’ Comp experience rating (EMR) less than or equal to 1.00*
  • An Incidence Rate 25% or more below AGC’s average**
  • An accident prevention and training program*
  • An actively enforced disciplinary program for employees as well as subcontractors*

*Documentation required.
**Based on AGC’s National Summary Report Incidence Rate averages and hours worked group.
